I'm not one to wear maxi dresses, mainly because I typically look ridiculously short in them. Also, they tend to be too maxi for my height. You know, not so much "maxi" as "hazardously dragging on the ground and threatening to make AmyK face-plant in public." But this one from GAP miraculously a) didn't make me look like a lawn gnome and b) doesn't drag on the floor. In fact, it seems to be the perfect length, ever-so-slightly grazing the tops of my feet. Color me impressed!

Okay, I still look pretty short in this dress with the cardigan over it. I swear it looks better without the sweater, but I'm not one to bare my arms. It's a bizarre thing, I know, but I hate showing my arms unless I'm in a bathing suit, in which case I'm too self conscious about my whole body to dwell on my arms.
So boho chic, I'm loving this look- you look vacation ready! I wish *I* could wear pretty, breezy maxi dresses- on my shorty-short-legs frame they just look ridiculous. I laughed out so hard at "I hate showing my arms unless I'm in a bathing suit, in which case I'm too self conscious about my whole body to dwell on my arms" Le sigh. I know whatchoo mean, lady. bathing suits are the bane of my existence.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, and I'm pretty sure we are the same height (5'2" ?) because maxi dresses do the EXACT same thing to me...
ReplyDeleteThe cartography cardi wasn't marked down in my store :( If anyone sees an XS on sale PLS email me I'll paypal you for it - soley because Amy has SOLD the damn thing on me....

I agree with Tara - you're looking very boho chic.
ReplyDeleteI still have a bit of trouble feeling "dressed up" when I put on a short dress - I think I get "ballgown mentality" when I have a long-one on.
I do like the look with the cropped cardi and belt though - I think it helps to define your shape and visually lengthen you out.
And I'm even going to get started on bathing suits ...
Looks great Amy! That cardi wasn't marked down online or at my store! I heard many people online say they were hoping it was, but wasn't at their store either. Weird - maybe they mark down different at each store?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE maxi dresses and I think you look beyond adorable here! Super super cute!
ReplyDeletehaaa. I love your modesty. You are adorable.

ReplyDeleteHi, Amy! I've long been a fan of your outfits; you always look cute, put-together and happy in them! :)
ReplyDeleteThat comment - "It's a bizarre thing, I know, but I hate showing my arms unless I'm in a bathing suit, in which case I'm too self conscious about my whole body to dwell on my arms." - made me come out of the woodwork since I feel the same way!
However, I did bare my arms in reviewing the Homegrown Dress recently, but that dress! Mmmm! I totally forgot all about my bare arms! Heehee!
I love this outfit - being a "shorty" myself, I, too, am always on the lookout for that "perfect" maxi dress. You look so comfy-chic!
Again, wonderful blog! Keep it up! :)
The complete ensemble looks great! I like the belted cardi over the dress!
ReplyDeleteI use to feel funny about bare arms but over the last few years figured it was futile. They are what they are. I'm just embracing them, toneless and all! :)
Very nice! The two prints work so well togther. I love to wear my maxi dresses with a belt and cardigan, too. Oh and your comment about not being concerned about bare arms when you're wearing a bathing suit..to funny. I never would bare my arms in public, but I've let it go. However, I know how you feel.
ReplyDeleteAww, cute. I think it is the first time I have seen you in a full length. Really pretty navy print.

you look adorable in the maxi dress! And I am the exact SAME about my arms + swimsuit! but my arms shouldnt really ever be seen out in public, they are giant! Yours looks cute!
ReplyDeletei'm in love with this sweater! it looks awesome with navy! you look adorable!
ReplyDeletelove this dress!! my friends dog ate my favorite maxi dress from gap recently... this one is looking enticing... :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love how the maxi dress looks a bit poufy from the waist. I usually pair mine with a vest or a fitted tee underneath so I don't feel so bare.
ReplyDeleteI think you actually look super tall in the maxi! Oooh I love the beigey brown with navy. I will have to pull out my new cardi verrry soon.
ReplyDeletehey AMY! you look soo CUTE as always...preeeetty sure you have officially sold me on that sweater :D my willpower was strong until i saw another GREAT outfit on you revolving around it!! can you tell me what size you purchased? (if you don't mind, that is!) since we are the same size at anthro! THANKS, have a great night hun :0)

ReplyDeleteOh you look so cute! I've been craving a maxi but I haven't tried one out yet because I think they might be too long. But that one makes me want to rethink! It doesn't make you look short! =)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a different look for you yet it still looks very "Amy K", I love it!
