When I stumbled upon this shimmery, frosty gray shirt at J.Crew with its jangling sequins that sounded almost like chain mail, I immediately thought mithril. Now, this fun top may not be harder than dragon's scales, and after getting it on sale (with an additional percentage off), it's definitely not worth more than the whole of the Shire, but guys, let's not get hung up on details.
matte sequin cami, j.crew
toothpick zipper jeans, j.crew [x-ish]
jacket, diane von furstenberg
monocle necklace, gift
Don't worry, Kim, I got this shirt a few weekends before we all committed to our shopping ban! Speaking of the shopping ban, I'm so proud of everyone who's participating. I'm staying strong despite feeling particularly clicky after seeing some new Gilt and Rue La La sales, but I'm resisting. Whew! The only thing that I freely admit to shopping for during this ban is a new swim suit, but I don't feel it violates the rules too much since it's something I need and not something I'm buying to pad my closet.
I'm glad to be on this shopping ban, despite the temptations. I need to learn to save more and spend less with each paycheck! Especially since I'm saving up for an especially big vacation next year to The Land Down Under...
I once lived on Rivendell Road... I'm not a LOTR or Hobbit buff, but my mom and brother are.... pretty sure rivendell is where the fairies lived or something (??)
ReplyDelete... oh, yeah... love the outfit too LOL
Yeah, I've got better things to do than care about hobbits - because I spent all my time caring about the X-Men and Anne Rice's vampires! (Though I'm probably all out of date with the X-Men stuff nowadays - being busy catching up on the lore of the Real Housewives and all).
ReplyDeleteI love your shimmery top!
Tehee LOVE the shirt o' mithril. :) I have a dog named Arwen, so I think you know I get the geekiness. I also may have the lifesize cut out of Aragorn...not all that hidden in our room. Hmm.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, that shirt is SO cute, I love it!
ReplyDeleteI never got Lord of the Rings. I was too dumb to understand it. Harry Potter, now THAT I get. :)
Come take a look inside A Working Mom's Closet
That sequined cami is so cute!! My hubby LOVES Lord of the Rings! I must confess I have never read any of the books but I have seen the movies... I know I know movies are never as good as the book!
ReplyDeleteoh dang! i love the sequined cami and have yet to pull the trigger on this beauty. it looks fabulous on you! good for you on the self-imposed spending ban. mine was a new years resolution that i have surprisingly stuck with. once you get used to not spending and being more particular, it's really quite easy. btw, i nominated you for the stylish blogger award. you always give me inspiration when i'm in a rut. ;) ~ susan
ReplyDeleteMithril. YES. I'm not a cute LOTR fan or a huge sequin fan, but apparently if you combine the two.. I like it.

CUTE top!!! Good for you!!! I'm doing the shopping ban too!! I couldn't figure out how to put the "shopping ban" thing on my page...so it's not blogger official but it is so IRL official bc I have not bought ONE thing. not one. {that was a pat on the back} LOL
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that top on you and I also love LOTR! We saw the musical in London a few years ago and it's still one of my favorites. I have to catch up on your blog (I was avoiding blogs because I got a computer virus grr..), the redesign is awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteLove sequins....adorable!
ReplyDeleteHey Amy! Can't wait to have you down under :-)
ReplyDeleteI love LOTR< but im probably not as big a fan as you are. For one, I don't think i've seen all the movies (but read all the books though).
That's a great sequin top - i like how it's shimmery but not too OTT glitzy.
HI Amy, cute top and love those J Crew flats. Good for you staying strong during the ban.
ReplyDeleteyour nails look great!
ReplyDeleteLove it- especially with the rougher matte cropped jacket- FTW! I always thought mithril was such a perfect almost onomatopoeic word for the material. I did actually have a silver button-up shirt I wore through my black & white phase in grade eight (it was 78% metallic according to the tag). I like the way sequins can be styled these days, less glam more style queen.
ReplyDeleteLol, you put a smile on my face- both with your love of hobbits and this gorgeous outfit. I read LOR when I was 7 ( in Russian, of course, I did not speak English then) and I remember how wowed I was. When I grew up and moved to US, I searched for the book - and lo and behold, it turned out to be the classic one. Love the series, have been faithful reader ever since(I re-read the original BTW).
ReplyDeletevery very cute outfit!! My bf would love this post (all the references to LOTR). He's a huge fan..when the play came to Toronto, he bought us tickets and I'm ashamed to say that I fell asleep during it..I'm soo sorry!!
