everything's coming up roses

I've been hard at work trying to come up with a new blog header design. I even spent 3 hours working on it yesterday... only to determine that I had to scrap it all because it just wasn't coming together like I wanted it to. GRRR. But there will be a new blog design! ........someday.

Also, I've come to the bitter realization that my weight loss progress is stalled because I keep waffling back-and-forth between being committed to exercising and "dieting" and not being committed. So whatever weight I lose one week, I gain back the next, and so on. BUT NO MORE. I'm going to lose 10 pounds. And you know why I'm going to lose 10 pounds? Because when I finally shed 10 pounds, I'm going to buy myself a new handbag as a prize. And you guys, I want that handbag. As an added bonus of dropping the weight, I'll also be able to fit into more of my clothes again so you guys can finally see something other than the same-old-same-old I've been wearing lately. Exciting!

dress, f21
cardigan, j.crew
tights, merona
flats, urban outfitters
belt, mom's
ring, novica
bracelet, american eagle
bangle, kate spade
big bangle, j.crew

And before I get any "you're too skinny to lose 10 pounds, you're not being healthy, you're a terrible person, yadda yadda yadda" comments or emails, let me make it clear that I am actually overweight for my height. So there. I'm not self-destructive or anything, I just want to be slim, trim, and healthy again. Fighting the good fight... against fat. And temptation. Isn't Thanksgiving 2 weeks away?

Gulp.

  1. Hey, girl! I JUST committed to losing 8-10 pounds on Oct 1st, and I lost 8 pounds as of my weigh-in on Monday. You can TOTALLY DO IT. I'm just like you--I waffle back and forth (mmm waffles) between healthy eating and eating whatever I want. I love exercising, so that's not the problem...it's PORTIONS and WHAT I'm eating. (And just like you, I get the "you're too skinny" crap... but I'm 5'2" and even 5 pounds can really make it hard to fit into my pants.)

    YOU CAN DO IT! :-)

  2. I would LOVE to lose 10 lbs and get back my high school weight, lol. I'm not a very big person to begin with, but because I'm short, just a few pounds make a huge difference on my appearance. I've slowly, but surely, gained 1-2 lbs. every year since high school and am inching closer and closer to 110. To most people, that seems like a slap in their face, but most people don't realize just how short I am. I'd love to try to lose 10 lbs alongside you, but not sure if I can do it! I love to eat way too much:( We will see...

    Good luck to you!

  3. LAPT -- Aww, thanks lady! I just need to chant that in my head -- I know I can I know I can I know I can! Haha! And congrats on your own victory! You're absolutely right about how someone our height can gain just a little bit and have it really affect our size. It's absurd! Boyfriend can gain 10 pounds and not even notice!

  4. violinista -- Another shortie with the same problem! It's frustrating, isn't it? I've been gaining weight since high school too, but I got fit again during college. Then I got a desk job. And I like to eat. Like, a lot. Sooo, here I am, 30 pounds heavier than I ought to be. 10 pounds at a time! And if you'd like to lose 10 pounds with me, join in! ;)

  5. I know how you feel. My husband and I have a deal that for 30 days of good cardio, I can get a dress - which has turned out to be a great motivator. Totally on board with the new handbag and I can't wait to see what you get!

  7. Good luck with the weight loss goal! I think I might have to join you in the 10-lb goal, like you I am also overweight for my height and I'm tired of my clothes being too tight. I like the idea of having a reward like a handbag or a dress at the end...but I don't do delayed gratification and I'd probably just get it anyway. :P

  8. Great idea to throw a tempting reward into your weight loss plan. I love your blog header and layout so don't stress yourself about changing a good thing. ;)

  12. Haha, you totally called it, I was all, "you look awesome, don't lose ten pounds." :) LOL. You hide it well, then, okay?

Which handbag has your eye??? This has to be one fine handbag...those last ten pounds are so hard, but if anyone can do it, you can!!!

  15. Love the braid!!

I would probably convince myself that if I purchased the bag in advance I would stick to the plan better, and then it would fail and I would come up with yet another expensive 'reward'....

I love the grey with pouffy floral! Good luck- show us your handbag desires!

  16. My BF bought me a wii fit for xmas last year and I started crying when it said I was overweight for my height. I dropped about 17 pounds and one of the biggest things that made a difference was drinking water. I know that sounds so dumb and obvious but seriously even if you think you drink plenty of water, start drinking more. You'll be amazed how much it helps. I also ditched elevators and started taking the stairs everywhere and would even take little breaks throughout the day to walk up and down the stairs in my office building.

  18. I'd like to lose 10 pounds with you! :-) Seems I've been trying to lose the same 10 pounds for almost a year now. Perhaps I need support. My problem is controlling what I eat. I need to be stronger when it comes to that. When are you beginning your program?
