Here's the way overdue look at my original holiday party dress, the Crinkle Cascade dress from J.Crew (now on sale for $99!):
worn with:
bordeaux tights, Hue
Polly heels, Tahari
glass gem necklace, J.Crew Outlet
gold bangle, F21
cluster ring, J.Crew

I got this dress in a size 4 and it fit like a dream. It's completely true to size. For a shortie like me, the length was still modest, but I'd imagine that on taller gals, this frock may be a little too mini.
I ended up changing dresses at the last minute to the Garnet Satin Sheath Dress from White House Black Market because my company's party venue changed at the last minute to an unheated location. Layering a cardigan over the J.Crew dress proved fashionably ridiculous, so I ended up sporting the red dress to the party instead. The red dress was super fun, so I wasn't too torn up about the last-minute change in attire:

xhilaration gray tights, Target
stripe lace tights, Urban Outfitters

I wore a black cardigan over the dress for most of the night, which is obviously not pictured here. And see the BF's outfit? I picked out everything except for the shoes. He had to look "dress up" appropriate, but the BF is a t-shirt and jeans kind of guy, so I opted to dress him up as casually as possible. He's wearing a dress-down-able (yes, that's a word now) gingham shirt, a charcoal v-neck sweater, a knit tie, and heathered brown slacks. He ended up loving the entire look, noting that it's "surprisingly comfortable." See? That wasn't so hard, was it? Might I dare say that he's kind of excited about after-Christmas shopping with me for new additions to his currently 6-item wardrobe?
Whoa! I have dress envy RIGHT NOW because I've wanted both those dresses forrrrever know. You look gorgeous! And how cute is your boyfriend? Husband won't let me touch him in the wardrobe department, which I suppose is okay (he's tall and skinny and ridiculously hard to dress in clothes that fit well) but still. I'd have fun. :(
ReplyDeleteI want the J Crew dress, though, so bad so bad so bad. And the WHBM one, which I've seen in person. Just gorgeous. *sighs happily*
i love both dresses! but the red one is sooo cute. you look amazing and the bf is adorable. glad you're back!!
ReplyDeleteYay, I am glad you are back posting :) You look adorable in *both* those outfits and your BF is pretty cute too ;) LOL at you picking everything but the shoes. It's the same way with mine!
ReplyDeleteboth dresses look fantastic on you! As someone who dresses her husband when necessary, you did an excellent job and you got him excited for more! Good job!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have an occassion to wear the j.crew dress b/c it looks great on you! That being said, the red dress is great, too and seems perfect for a holiday party.
ReplyDeleteGood job on the BF styling!
Both outfits are great, but here's my question...
ReplyDeletewhat the hell is with your office and heat/AC issues???
both of those are great! I do particularly love the black one, esp with the purple tights! you love lovely :)

What a nice looking pair you two are! Sounds like you had a fun evening...and I'm glad you found a dress that looks great *and* was temperature appropriate. :)
ReplyDelete*lol* at Sarah -- she's right...your office definitely has heat issues, even when not in the building. *lol*
ReplyDeleteAre you keeping the J Crew dress? I'm sorry to hear that it doesn't work w/a cardi. I guess it's just too voluminous? I hope you're keeping it. It's so cute & you did it so well w/the tights.
I really hope you were able to keep the J Crew dress, it looks so amazing on you! The WHBM dress looks beautiful today, what a great shade of red.
ReplyDeleteGood job dressing the BF, he looks very dapper indeed
yay you're back! what an adorable photo of you and you bf :)
ReplyDeleteChloe - Maybe your hubby would let you help him out in the wardrobe department if say, all of his clothes suddenly disappeared? Just a thought, haha! My boyfriend is luckily tall and medium-build, which makes him pretty easy to dress. The J.Crew dress is BEAUTIFUL and I totally recommend it, especially now that it's on sale! No occassion to wear it? Make an occassion!
ReplyDeleteAngela - Thanks! I'm glad to be back too and back to reading your blog as well!
goldenmeans - Yay! I just read your blog and accidentally x-ed out while in the middle of commenting. D'oh! And isn't it fun dressing up the guy? He's like a life-sized Ken doll, haha! (except much better looking than Ken)
Kathy - Thanks! I'm excited to dress him more!
Pamela - I actually returned the J.Crew dress because I won't have an occassion to wear it for a long, long time... and well, there's no telling what size I'll be by then. Sad.
sarah - You know, I have no idea what is up with my office's bad luck when it comes to climate control!
Natalie - Thanks! I wish I didn't have to return the black one. Booo...
e. - Aww, thanks! Even though my boyfriend is a good foot taller than me, haha... and yes, staying warm is a must!
gigiofca - She is right, my office has some climate control issues for sure! And no, unfortunately I'm not keeping the J.Crew dress. It did look too voluminous under a cardigan, which is too bad because I loved it!
Debye - I returned it, sadly! I wanted to keep it, but just couldn't justify keeping it when I had nowhere to wear it! But you know, with all the sales going on, I might find a reason to buy it again, haha!
Sharon - Thanks!
Just a quick note, the dress is on final sale now ;o)
