THE RUNNING LATE SPECIAL

I can learn a lesson like anyone else. After stubbing my toes in the dark a few times, I've learned to either flip on the lights or to wear close-toed slippers for late-night apartment roaming. After nearly running my car into someone while switching lanes, I've learned to check my blind spot for hidden vehicles before moving over. After one really great-but-awful night, I've learned that beer-plus-liquor equals Amy-gets-sicker. You get the idea.

But there is one thing that I can't ever learn: that it is never a good idea to allow yourself "just five more minutes" in bed when you have to get ready for work. You'd think that after literally hundreds of incidents where that scenario doesn't pan out, I'd stop allowing myself to spend 5, 10, or 15 extra minutes in bed. But here I am.

Hence, the pretty unexciting outfit and the workplace bathroom mirror pictures for today.

v-neck tee, j.crew [x] [x]
arrow sweater, j.crew
zipper jeans. j.crew [x-ish]
gray boots, star ling
blue socks, xhilaration
bug ring, f21
gold bangle, kate spade

Hopefully, tomorrow I will not repeat the same mistake. But who knows?

Also, check out my poorly manicured hands in that last photo! I can't be trusted to paint my own nails without also painting my fingers, too.

  1. What?! I think you look great sweetie! I would never guess that you woke up late! I love you in jeans and boots.

  2. This is hilarious. I have an issue with the whole "5 more minutes" thing. I always wake up earlier than LG and after I've gotten dressed, hair and makeup done, he always says "5 more minutes in the bed?" NO! I'm not getting back into the bed because it will be 10 times harder to get out!

  3. You look cute, sometimes simple is the way to go.
I do the 5,10,15 minutes thing every single morning. Just this morning, while running late, I told myself no more snooze button...but looking at it realistically the snooze will be hit again tomorrow :)

  4. Hahaha Story. Of. My. Life! Oversleeping and painted fingers. Your post title made me chuckle and roll my eyes like "Aww man! You too?"

PS: Your comment on my post yesterday made me feel like there's at least one person out there who's picking up exactly what I'm putting down, so thank you for that. You're one smart cookie, Amy K ^^

  6. i really like these photos! must be the lighting or something but you look great:)

i am also bad at painting my own nails...though I've found those nail correction pens they sell at Sephora really help! It's like a magic marker for your skin yay...

  7. I'm crap at nail painting too - I usually paint them the night before and in the morning, I scratch/rub off the excess nail polish while I'm in a warm shower.

  8. I'm so bad at this...I love laying in bed and watching tv in the morning and always think I can get ready faster than I actually can! Thankfully my boss is lenient about my start time :)
However, I love your hair in these pictures...and that sweater. Bathroom pics or not, you look adorable!

  9. You look great! And because of how awesomely you rock the arrow sweater, I ended up getting 2 as well for a great deal, yay :)

I'd also like to make a modest request - any chance you'd be willing to post a hair tutorial soon? I really love the curls you've been sporting lately, and from what I can tell, it looks like we have similar Asian hair - thick, thick and not superstraight.

  10. You are not the only person who does the running late special. The bad thing is that I've managed to haul my butt up a tad bit earlier and still get to work late(r).

I love the nail color you are wearing. What brand and name is it?

  11. to add to the list of beauty requests above, what eyeliner are you using? looks like liquid liner and it is so hard to find a good one that will create a clean lined look.

  12. I never learn not to hit the snooze button. During the week, I can't ever wake up, but on the weekends, I am wide awake by 7am. Sigh, body, why do you do this to me?

  13. Omg, you were running late and still managed to look beautiful. Never happens to me. I love your outfit and after seeing how fantastic you look in the arrow I really, really want one.

  14. I have that same problem with, "5 more minutes". I'm always negotiating w/myself as to what I can skip to still keep on time. It never works.

Don't you love the Arrow sweater?! It's a favorite this winter!!

  16. Oh my gosh, I am the queen of the 5-10-15 minutes more problem...when will I learn?? I can so relate! Love this outfit on you...I think you look great! THe sweater is super flattering on you. Hope you had a good day! =)

  17. Every single morning I get up, spend 20 minutes on the internet/watching the local news, spend way too much time in my closet trying to decide what to wear, and then I'm 20-30 minutes late to work. Every...Single...Day. But for some reason, I never make changes to my routine because I think the next morning will be different (and I'll be on time), but it never is. When will I learn?

  18. i soooo know what you mean about the "5 more min" snooze button! lol!! you still look cute, and your hair and make-up looks fresh and fab.

  19. I can totally relate! I even set my alarm 5, 10, or 15 minutes earlier, but I just can't trick myself and then I just end up sleeping in 10, 20, or 30 minutes longer..haha! Guess it's a lesson I'll never learn either.

  20. You look so cute!! I'm totally guilty of spending the extra time in bed too!

  21. I do that every morning! I saw five and it never is! cute outfit! xo

  22. I'm disciplined enough to be on time for work (I usually lay out my clothes the night before because I can barely function the morning of). Howeverrr I am perpetually late for things that we do on the weekend! It drives H mad, but I can't help it! I always need just a few more minutes to sleep, do my hair, etc.

  23. Now...i wished I could look as cute as you do in the mornings! I always hit the snooze button on my alarm clock in the morning. And extra 5-10 minutes of sleep is very much needed. I do understand that an extra 5 minutes in bed equals 5 minutes less to get ready. Hence why i always end up with wet hair to work ... or unblended moisturiser...

  24. I have the same incident with 5 more minutes. lol. I think every woman does that. We usually have mood swings and delaying tactics until we are running out of time. We tend to change mind instantly also. How will I ever learn to discipline myself? haha.
But you have lovely boots Amy. And your outfit totally a chic.

  25. You looka adorabale as always!!

  26. woops, i'm a little late to the commenting part, but this made me laugh! i do the 5 more minutes thing all the time, and like you said, never learn. perhaps it's because we really want to be doing something else all day? it is for me anyway. :P
