earth tones

Boyfriend and I will be heading up to my old college stomping grounds in Boston next week, and I am relieved for the break from my job and from this city. I love what I do, I love where I work, and I love where I live, but this mental and locational (is that the correct term?) (it is now) vacation could not come soon enough.

A few times each year, I experience what is akin to city-wide cabin fever. This mood just comes over me where I grow increasingly irritable and restless; I scowl at the familiar rhythm of the city and tire of the same-old-same-old places I've been to hundreds of time. I long for change, for new experiences, places, tastes, and utter unpredictability. During these fits, it seems that I yearn to be anywhere but exactly where I am.
jacket, diane von furstenberg
half slip (under dress), anthropologie
cable tights, xhilaration
wide belt, calvin klein
wedges, lauren by ralph lauren
ring, target

I can't explain why this happens, but I've always known that I would never be satisfied staying in one spot for too long. I always imagine that the greatest opportunities lie a plane ride away, which scares Boyfriend, who is a "put-down-your-roots-in-one-place" kind of guy. I imagine it's because he's never been anywhere but exactly where he is -- then again, maybe he's really just happy staying put. I know a lot of people are, and I envy them.

They're content where they are, and I'm always wondering when I'll get to pack my suitcase next.

i too feel restless in one place. been in philly for 3 years and kind of itching to leave, but to where? i lived in the same state for the first 21 years of my life, so i guess now i prefer to be a carpetbagger. :)

  4. Hooray, you're back! Love that dress – what a F21 find! I moved around a lot when I was a kid and hated it, so I like staying put when I can.

(btw, I used to blog as "i'd wear it" but I lost steam and stopped... I have been following your blog though, and do enjoy it.)

  5. I agree with everyone else that this dress is really cute!!

I'm like you in feeling restless. I itch to go on vacation all the time and I yearn to just pack up one day and move somewhere new. It's a scary thought though since I've lived here all my life.

  7. Yay, you're back! Love that dress and ring!

I get that way every now and then, although more so before having DD. I did sow my wild oats living in NYC for 9 years, so now I've reached the point where I'm happy being settled... most of the time. ;)

  8. Cute dress and ring! I used to get more restless until I had kids and now the stress of leaving them or taking them has really calmed me down!

  9. This dress is beautiful! I love travel, but I think I am more a "need a long-term home" person, which the fiance' is not so much. Who knows where we'll live before ever "settling down".

  10. I know exactly what you mean about getting out your city. I often get restless and just need a weekend away to regroup and relax. When I read and learn about all the new cities that bloggers live in, I want to visit new places even more!!

  12. Even the mini-est (is that a word? it is now :)) of breaks can do wonders for the soul. I hope you have fun in Boston. And it goes without saying, I love, love, love this print dress...and the ring, oh my!

  13. Any chance you want to swing by good ole Jersey and hang out? ;)
I know what you mean about the wanderlust.
I have never lived in the same place for over 5 years which means I am on my 3rd home, not to mention the apartments and houses I rented before buying.
We just hit the 5 year mark here and I'm starting to get a little antsy...

Loving your hair...you're like the "don't hate me because I'm beautiful" hair girl!!!!

  16. Oh, I love home, that's for sure, but I love travelling too. best of both worlds I guess. The print on this dress is great, and I love the short length with the cropped blazer. sweet.

  17. I love being out and about too. I never really venture too far away from home though. But being far away makes me miss being home. Loving the dress!

  18. I'm more like your boyfriend. I like being staying in the one place rather than moving places. Although i don't mind travelling ...just not for too long. it's nice to be able to take a break from work and the city.
I really want that hair of yours. It is so full and healthy! you look so adorable in the second photo!
