one calico I'll have to collect

Boyfriend took me to Anthropologie the day after Valentine's Day (erm, Presidents' Day) to look at some pretty stuff so that I'd focus less on my icky sickness (which I'm over now, by the way THANK GOODNESS) and more on modeling pretty things for him. I think he likes Anthropologie because there's a couch in the fitting room for him to lounge on, but I'm not going to ruin a good thing by calling him out on that.

I saw the Collected Calico dress dolling up a mannequin and knew that I had to try it on. You see, readers, I have a major love for calico dresses. Calico dresses and I gravitate towards each other like magnets to a fridge, or like me to chocolate cake on Day One of another failed diet.

Looksie:

'collected calico' dress, anthropologie $138

fluffy underskirt, ooh la la...

adorable piping and print details

I tried this on in my usual size 4 and the fit was great. There's some corset-style boning going on, which I personally love because it makes me look slimmer and enhances the "ladies." It also makes the full skirt really stand out because the top is structured. The back is smocked, so that allows for some more comfort as well. The material is really soft and light without being insubstantial, and the underskirt adds some heft and "fluffiness" to the full skirt. It's great twirling material! There are also pockets (hidden), which is always a plus in my book.

Overall, I really loved this dress and may be going back for it soon. Anthropologie, stop making such cute things or I'll go broke for sure!

  2. very flattering fit. this would look great with one of your blazers or maybe the dvf military jacket (for work).

I am pining for the cockadoodle dress. The style (halter, sweetheart neckline, button front) is not something I normally wear but the print and color is right up my alley.

  4. Wow Amy, I didn't give that dress a second glance when looking through the new arrivals, but it is REALLY cute. I love the '90ish element to all those mixed florals.

And lol @ your BF's motivation. My BF always told me that he'd be waiting for me "on the boyfriend couch" when I went into the Anthro fitting rooms :)

  7. Fiance doesn't shop. Last time he came to Anthro he saw the price of a pair of jeans and said "It's this much for how many..."

  8. Adorable dress and I love the underskirt! Now that's smart of Anthro to add the guy friendly couch to their fitting room, isn't it?

  9. Looks great on you! Shopping is definitely a leave-husband-at-home activity for me. Actually, I prefer to shop all by myself--is that weird?

  11. I wish I could wear dresses more often, this one is particularly cute..I have few dresses but I hardly ever reach for them, so much easier to function in jeans/cords and sweaters on everyday basis. Kudos to you for being able to pull such a great feminine look- lovely!

  12. Eeek!! I saw this dress today but didn't let myself try it on in case it was perfect. I'm trying to hold out until after Easter. It looks so great on you! If you get it, I'll live vicariously through you for a couple of weeks!
