giving the skinny jeans a break

I love a good skinny jean, but I tire of them sometimes. Enter these wider-cut jeans.

I normally don't wear wider cuts because they have the tendency to shorten my already very short legs (seriously, guys. I'm like 90% torso). However, I found that as long the material hugs my thighs and loosens up past the knees (as opposed to being loose throughout the leg) and I add even more length with heels, wider-cut jeans can work on my body. That offers a refreshing change for sure!

I know today's outfit is a bit Plain Jane, but sometimes I just don't feel like putting too many components into what I wear.

Now, I'm curious about your sartorial accomplishments: Is there anything you didn't think would work on you, but that you later found a way to make it work?

  1. Love Gap's long&leans (have them in light and dark washes). You look great!

  2. LOVE those wide leg jeans on you Amy - I think they're incredibly flattering! I also love your nail polish and am obsessed with colors like that lately! What color is yours?

  3. Love these jeans on you! The muted colors fit you just like any other color...great to have a versatile skin tone like that. I've been trying to wear more color lately even though I'm not as comfortable in bright colors. I've been given quite a few compliments so I take it breaking out of my comfort zone is a good thing to do.

  5. Elena -- I am a new convert for sure!

Kim -- Aww, thanks! The color is "For Audrey" by China Glaze. It's a perfect match to Tiffany Blue!

Leah -- Thanks! I think you have a skintone that is more versatile than you may think. I bet you can pull off all sorts of colors wonderfully! Don't feel pressured to rush into colors all at once, though. Wear smaller pieces first and get used to color and it won't seem as scary!

featherfactor -- Long torsos unite! Haha! Definitely give wide-leg jeans another try!

  6. Give skinnies the boot, Amy, because you are rocking those long and leans! I think the silhuoette makes your legs seem longer and your overall look today is chicly simple.

Hell, I used to never think that I could make skirts and dresses work - and look at me now!

  7. Those jeans look AMAZING on you! Love! I used to think pencil skirts wouldn't work for me and didn't even try them on until a few years ago. Now, they comprise about 75% of my skirt collection!

  9. You are not 90% torso, but that comment made me laugh. ;)

You look fab and lean and chic. Seriously you belong on the streets of NYC. (And not that kind of street walker, heads out of the gutter, people. LOL.)

  10. i have one pair of jeans like that that i like to wear sometimes with gold sandals, for some reason they always make me feel like i should be on a resort or doing something fancy schmancy. in jeans.

  11. I love those jeans! You look so chic and simple today, I love it!

I never though skinny jeans would work for me. I mean I'm short and squat with thunder thighs. I kinda like them now, (there is always the chance I shouldn't) although I only own one pair.

I love those jeans on you! They are a perfect fit!

  12. You look great in those jeans! I'm an advocate for jeans and pants that fall to the floor for us shorties, def. worn with a heel. I like to rock my trouser/bootcut/long & lean jeans with a 3" heel. Oh yeah... ;)

  13. those jeans look fabulous on you...very polished. i still remember when long and lean was introduced - i was working at the gap in high school!

and i cannot wear the color yellow (pale/neon/anything)...it washes me out for some reason, not sure if it's the asian skin tone...so i only wear it on my lower half ie. pants, skirts, etc. :)

  14. Wow, the jeans look great on you. I'm always afraid of wearing wider cut jeans because of the same problem (I'm just short... 5'). But maybe I'll try what you did and see how it looks! Thanks for the tip!

  16. You look ridiculously chic today and love the "plain jane" outfit you've created. The jeans look so flattering and definitely agree that a little flare every now and then don't hurt nobody!!

  17. There's something about this outfit that just makes you look streamlined, sleek and classy. Must be the dark colours :-)
I always thought ankle boots would never work on short legs like mine until i tried on a pair. I love them and can't stop buying them now!

  18. I too have felt the need to take a step back from the skinnies lately so I'm trying to find some wide-leg/trouser jeans to fit the bill. YOu are looking adorabe in those jeans...they fit you like a glove! I also love that nail polish...totally screams spring!! =)

  19. I've been obsessed w/skinny jeans for way too long now. And I've been meaning to bust out my wide leg jeans again...hmm, you've given me quite a bit of inspiration to work with! :) PS Not sure if it's been mentioned, but I love that you can see the LOTR books peeking through your elbow in your lookbooks!! I need to start posing next to my fave literary works!

  20. Classy lady! This is one of my favourite outfit posts - even though I normally go for skirts, dresses, and lots of colour. Your hair looks fantastic like this, too!
