So. *coughs* Where have I been since? Well, I was out the week before last on a business trip in Seattle (beautiful city!). Then last week, I intended to post, I really did. Honestly!

I went to the pool the weekend before last and got some color on my skin (I put on sunscreen, folks!). But my midsection, thanks to my very adorable one-piece swimsuit from J.Crew, was left pale as ever due to lack of exposure. I decided to try Neutrogena's Build-a-Tan lotion on my stomach, chest, and back to even things out sans UV rays. It was working great the first day -- perfect coloring and no streaks! -- so I put it on again the next day. And then a huge, itchy rash bloomed across my entire torso. AUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH.

Now, to clarify, I'm pretty sure I was just allergic to something in the lotion, so I don't think this is a normal reaction. It was just my own sensitive skin's inane, overblown reaction to what it perceived to be an irritant.

So that's why there are no pictures and no OOTDs. Because I spent the rest of last week and weekend holed up in my apartment, wearing comically oversized T-shirts and baggy pajama bottoms, rubbing Gold Bond all over my blotchy, pixelated-looking body and shoving ice packs under my shirt in an attempt to put out that raging rash inferno.

Lovely story, isn't it?

Well, I'm on the mend now thanks to some prescription medication, but things still aren't looking (or feeling) pretty. I'll most likely be wearing some very humdrum outfits for the next few weeks, consisting of comfortable tees and blah-blah-blah jeans, as I heal up. *snores*

To wit:

denim, j.crew outlet
snakeskin sandals, aldo
scarf, gap (in store only?)
polish, 'green 11' urban outfitters

Hello, Spider-Man! Fancy seeing you here. A nice summer scarf hides the scarring on my neck (yeah, it was really bad).

But to make up for this less than exhilarating OOTD, here are some random vignettes in my entertainment center --

Check out my tiny record collection, with a wooden stegosaurus puzzle!

And my ever-expanding book collection. I know this is paltry compared to some of the incredible bookshelves I've seen from other bookworms *cough*ROSEMARY*cough*, but I'm going to need to take over another shelf soon.

Finally, I got something that really cheered me up after a busy work day of adult responsibilities and itching --

Super sweet Angela from Notes From the Dressing Room sent me an adorable card and a $50 gift card to J.Crew as a thank you for creating her blog header! Angela, seriously, you told me you were just sending me a thank you card, you rascal! ;)

I love it, and she even included a picture of the lovely striped dress I covet from J.Crew! So thank YOU, Angela! You're a doll, and it seriously made my day! Not just the gift card (though that is admittedly nice, I'm not one to lie, haha!), but just knowing the amount of thought you put into the card made me misty-eyed... I am such a softie!

  1. Oh No! What a terrible reaction to lotion! I'm sorry Amy, I'm sure that's no fun to deal with. I hope the medication you are taking helps in no time!

I LOVE your jeans btw - not boring at all! But I'm biased, cuz I'm a jeans gal =)

  2. oh noes! glad to hear you are on the mend after such a traumatic experience. your shelves are looking great too, by the way! i love the personal, whimsical elements you have incorporated. looking forward to your recovery and more outfit posts! :)

  3. you still look great even when you're not "looking/feeling" your best! hope you recover really soon. i also really enjoyed your "picture" hehe :)

  4. You're adorable. I'm so sorry that happened! I'm glad you're on the mend now. And yes, you still look great even if you don't feel like it!

Come take a look inside A Working Mom's Closet

  5. sorry to hear about your allergic rxn. Last year I broke out from "something" too and till this day, I haven't been able to figure out what it was. I hope you had a good time in Seattle :)

  6. Oh wow! Sorry to hear about your bad reaction, hope it feels better soon!
The casual outfit looks really cute on you, too! :D

  7. That stinks! I hope you heal up quickly!

Casual is not a bad thing, especially when you are as cute as you are :)

  8. I am sorry about your reaction! You still look darling though! Life has been pretty crazy here too I guess it's just to be expected!

  9. Oh the things we do for an even tan! At least you hadn't put it all over your neck and arms, egads! You still look adorable as always in your super heroes tee!

  10. Ouch, sorry you had such a bad reaction!! I hope you heal soon and as pain-free as possible.

I'm so glad you got your gift and that you love it!!! I wish I could have bought the dress for you, but I figured this would be a good substitute. :)

  11. Allergic reactions suck! I love how you used the scarf here, very creative!

  12. oh, you poor thing! That's so hard, because you don't want to irritate it with any other ointment or lotion. ouch!

spiderman is a good saviour- he's been through some discomfort via spider bites so might understand skin irritations...

  13. oh no! That rash sounds horrible!!! I hope it's clearing up for you. It's just sounds yucky!

  14. I think we may have the same skin type. My skin is quite sensitive especially when it comes to sunscreens. Its happened to me so many times. Don't know if you guys have Elocon ointment in the us? It's px only , but it works! Hope you're feeling better soon!

  15. Oh no to the rash! But you still managed a pretty cute outfit, I must say...hope you get better soon :) You are a Tolkien nerd! I thought I was the only one who has his other books!

  16. Eeps! Hope you're feeling better. And thanks for the sweet shout out. I adore your bookshelves, especially in your outfit posts where your Tolkien collection peeks out from behind your elbow. :)
