kicking up the botanicals

I'm a huge sucker for retail deals and promotions. Whenever I see a "Take an Additional 30% Off" sign, my pulse starts racing and my vision blurs for about 1.3 seconds. So when I strolled into Gap a few weeks ago with the earnest (and ill-conceived) intention of "just looking" and the sales guy hit me with a doozy of a deal ("We're running a 40% off all dresses and skirts promotion right now"), I almost fainted. Okay, not really, but if this were a television show, you would see me faint only to have the scene cut back to me standing there perfectly conscious, showing that the fainting spell only represented just how excited I was.

Did you follow that?

Anyway, I snagged this pretty little summer frock:

botanical empire tank dress, gap [x]
olive moto jacket, diane von furstenberg
joley flats, j.crew
studded leather belt, j.crew [x]

I've already worn this dress once before for a graduation party. It was liberally doused in DEET to keep the mosquitoes at bay. If you're a mosquito magnet like I am, I highly recommend Off's Soft and Dry spray. It still smells pretty awful, but it won't leave you feeling all sticky and greasy like the other Off sprays.

And finally, look at the pretty peonies Boyfriend got me! I am a lucky girl!

What is it about flowers that make them look so delicious?* I remember watching Eeyore chomp on thistle blooms as a kid and thinking they were the most tasty looking things ever. The same goes for when I watched The Land Before Time and saw Little Foot eat that Tree Star. Yum!

Happy weekending!

* this may or may not be a sign the summer heat is getting to me

  1. Pink peonies remind me of bubblegum, so I totally understand the desire to eat them. You are so freaking adorable. What a great score on the dress!

  2. cute dress! I looove peonies, they smell so sweet. I too am a mosquito magnet, and we live in the woods, in the country, near a farm, on a creek, so they are particularly bad. I'm currently nursing 4 nibbles on my legs just from my walk in to the house from my car yesterday - ick!

    Really.

And I love your Eeyore reference...especially since my Thursday post referenced the film "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh"!

Does that makes us soul sisters or something???

The floral dress is so pretty on you.

And you and I are the same way - if my doc took my blood pressure/pulse right after I heard/read the words, "Additional percentage off", then I'd be on meds fo sure.
