CHECKERED BELL

Happy Monday, readers! I got to trek over to J.Crew this past weekend and the store was finally restocked with new arrivals. Woohoo! So, look for a small review post of some skirts this Friday, though you'll see 2 of my J.Crew purchases right now. (I get really excited to wear new purchases.)

Also this past weekend, Boyfriend and I dined on some delicious crepes at CoCo's Crepes & Coffee. It's one of our favorite Saturday afternoon spots for a light lunch -- the savory crepes are divine!

Boyfriend is doing what I like to call the "Dr. McCoy" eyebrow (any Star Trek fans? anyone? anyone?) -- though I have no idea what's going on with his mouth.

A chicken pesto crepe with carrots, zucchini, and greens! I'm still figuring out how to make food look tasty in photographs. It's tricky, you guys.

And now, the clothes.

I took advantage of the sunset for my OOTD pictures. Learning from Tara's (Little Girl Big Closet) awesome photo tutorial on lighting, I knew that having the sun lower on the horizon was something I needed to jump on. I scampered out into a random grass lot, which isn't all that pretty, but it was safe from curious onlookers. I'm still working on that "taking pictures in public" confidence level. The pictures turned out a little dark because I didn't think to adjust some of my camera settings, but I'm still pleasantly surprised by how nice and warm the colors are!

This photo was taken earlier in the day while cruising around Rice Village. Don't worry, I'm not creeping on someone's car -- I have my arm on my own sweet ride.

I tend to look off into the distance in my photos. It's like there's always something really interesting going on just slightly to the right of the lens.

Except in this photo, which I will leave you with because I have no shame:

Me: "MMM CHOCOLATE BUNNY."
Chocolate Bunny: "MMM CARROT."
Carrot: "AAAAAUUUUGGGHHHHHHH."

Yeah. I'll see you all tomorrow.

  1. Baaahahahaha you are such a friggin riot, omg. Thanks for the shout-out- your sun pic looks so very pretty, and I love the way the sunlight highlights your hair :)
I stared at that last pic for quite a while. Then I laughed. You really are one of the most fun people I've ever had the pleasure of "knowing"!

  2. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. Our weather here was mild, with Sunday being sunny and warm...a perfect day to hang out and enjoy the day as you did. I love, love your bag! You and boyfriend are adorable. I can't wait to see your post on Jcrew's new arrivals.

  3. Oh, I just ordered that skirt from J.Crew - how does it fit? I'm usually right between an 8 and a 10, and got an 8 because I figured it was loose in the booty (my "endowed" area) and elastic in the waist. I got the faded black color, I'm excited for it!

  4. after I tried the cotton bell skirt one size smaller than my usual size, I fell in love with it. (IRL pix in my blog). Then I went back home to order it online, only to find out it was sold out in this lovely toffee color. bummer :(

  12. Oh lady, I love nothing better than a good crepe! Especially a savory one! Ooh, I'm so hungry right now ...

Great outfit and great photos, girl! I know what you mean about taking pics outside - try doing it without a smiling photographer! Or a regular photographer! Or even a mildly-amused photographer! Or a tripod!

  21. I was going to buy that skirt online, but I was afraid of the sizing...how does the skirt fit? I'm always between a 0 or 2, and with the elastic I can size down...unless the hips are too narrow! What do you think?

  22. Ashley -- I got this in a size up from what I usually wear because it was the only one they had in the store, but I think you can get away with wearing it in a size 8. It definitely allows room in the booty area, haha, so that shouldn't be a problem at all!

fshnonmymind -- I actually have no idea what color the cardigan is, haha! It was on the sale rack in my store and I just loved it!

Fashion Therapist -- Yup, my MAB is in the lilac color! I love it!

Anon -- I totally see the Spock eyebrow now too -- you are so right!

LAPT -- I think you can definitely size down with this one, especially if you can normally wear a size 0 anyway. I sized up because it was the only one available, and the waist is loose, but I wear it belted without an issue. The elastic is pretty forgiving too from what I can tell, and the skirt floats away from the body so I don't think hips should be an issue. I hope that helps!

Everyone Else -- You guys made me LOL more than once, haha! I love reading all of your comments and I only wish Blogger had a better system where I could respond to each of them!
