Another month-old outfit for this post, mainly because I want to show off this adorable Fossil dress I got and loved... until it betrayed me in my time of need.
*cue dramatic music*
I decided to wear this dress in NYC for my friend's engagement party (hi Kirti if you're reading! *waves*). And since I pack light, this was the only party-appropriate thing I had with me. In retrospect, that was probably tempting the fates too much. To make a long story short, I was halfway through zipping up the dress when the zipper's teeth pulled apart. It took half an hour of cussing and MacGuyver-ing to get it fixed, but now I probably have to replace the entire zipper to prevent that from happening again.
I should've known this dress was prone to problems, though, because while trying on this dress, I had noticed another one of these dresses hanging in the dressing room -- also with a broken zipper. Curses!

Any dress-related horror stories you'd all like to share?
I was browsing through Zara last weekend when I spotted this purple blazer. Thinking it'd be good for a laugh, I put it on and thought about how amazingly crazy it would look with matching purple pants. A real Grimace-of-McDonalds-fame-joins-Miami-Vice ensemble, if you follow me.
But instead of laughing, I looked at my reflection and went, "Hmmmm... this could work." Strange how sometimes things that seem hilariously ill-advised on the hanger can actually surprise you when you put it on. Now I wonder how I ever doubted the allure of this sweet grape-hued jacket.

Have any of you guys ever saw what you thought was a tragedy on a hanger only to discover that it's anything but once you put it on?
Also, I would like to point out how amazing it is that this outfit features no J.Crew at all, especially since 75% of my staple wardrobe consists of J.Crew pieces. Branching out!
If I just had 2 more orange skirts, I'd be able to make this an all orange week. Alas, I only have this one and yesterday's, though I'd wager that's 2 more orange skirts than most people own.
This outfit isn't anything entirely new. I've worn different versions of this quite a few times now, but I still enjoy it! I love a good maxi skirt, and this one has to be my favorite by far. It's so wonderfully swishy!
And, ahem, note to the Zara inside the Galleria -- please stock your store with some of the wonderful goodies I've been spying on the website. Like this, this, and this. Please and thank you.
This is easily one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite musicians, but boy does it give me the sads. But what do you expect from a song called "When I'm Down"?
From Chris Cornell's strongest solo venture to date, right after Soundgarden called it quits in 1999, the song features a more jazz-y sound than his usual crunchy grunge. It's also one of the damned most vocally challenging songs I've ever heard, which isn't surprising coming from a man who has a four-to-five octave range. A piano only has 7 octaves. Now, I don't mean he does sustained diva belting, but rather that the notes and tempo are tricky! And this is coming from someone who trained with a vocal coach for a while (but don't get your hopes up. I'm on a Pierce-Brosnan-in-Mama-Mia level of terrible now).
I saw him perform it live last month. It sounds just as sparse and gorgeous in person as it does on the record.
Now, indulge me -- what song makes you sad and why?
Do you ever notice that when a song gets stuck in your head, it typically replays the same part over and over again? Even when you sit and think the song through, the moment you stop sitting and thinking it through, the tune tends to skip right back to a particular spot, like a record player's finicky needle.
For instance, whenever I get Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" stuck in my head (and it seems to somehow creep in there at least once a month, despite my never hearing that song anywhere else but in my own head), it's always on the "WOW-WOW" guitar part in the beginning of the song.
Whenever it's Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir," I always loop the part of the song where Robert Plant croons "ooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooyeah... baby, I've been flying/dying/crying/(I can't ever make out what he actually says here)."
And so on and so forth.
Today, I have one teeny blurb from The Decemberists' "On the Bus Mall" endlessly looping in my noggin. Which accounts for this post title, as this actual post has little to nothing to do with shoes. Or boats. Or shoes shaped like boats.
I know, I'm disappointed too.

I love silk tops. I found this shirt on sale at Fossil for $19.99 and knew it had to come home with me. I mean, silk and with feather print? I am sold!
