anthro reviews: turtle dresses, floaty tops, and monkey skirts

So it's my lunch break and I've hunkered down at my desk with a bowl of cereal and now I've got a few Anthropologie reviews to put up and some lovely blogs to catch up on. So let's get to it!

First up, the 'Arribada Current' dress. Boyfriend rather likes turtles, so when I saw this dress, I knew that it was coming to the dressing room with me. The color is a really vibrant green in real life and the turtle print is just darling. The V-neck front wasn't too low, so there shouldn't be any concern of "accidental exposure," and the V-dip in the back isn't too low either, so you can easily wear a regular bra. I'd say, though, that this dress runs a little big. I tried on my usual size 4 and while it wasn't annoyingly baggy, it was a bit looser than I think that its supposed to be. I wasn't a fan of the included waist sash either, but that's easily removable. This dress would look really cute and summery paired with a wide brown or nude belt or a skinny gold one. It is also a little longer than I'd like, as it hit me right below the knees, making my 5'2" self look even tinier. I'm sure taller gals won't have a problem with this. I'll probably be snatching this up if it makes it to the sales rack.

Next up is the 'Circled Adornments' tank. I'm a huge sucker for floaty, billowy things, and especially floaty, billowy things that involve tiers, so when I saw this, I knew I had to give it a go. It fits TTS as I took my usual size S in it, though looking back on these pictures, I think I could probably go down to an XS to cut down on some of the volume. The fabric is more of a soft pink in real life than the pictures show. The back is interesting in that it's jersey for the most part with some of the tier-fabric tacked on at the bottom. This makes it look really cute under cardigans or jackets, but kind of odd on its own. I loved the little crochet-style neckline, but seeing as how I already own the slightly similar 'Free Flow' tank, I passed on this one.

I saw this the 'Simian Tableau' skirt and had to try it on for Tara B. from Little Girl Big Closet, who mentioned the skirt in this post. It's definitely a kooky number! I included a close-up of the print further down, and as you can see, the whimsical little scene depicted on the skirt shows several monkeys, cranes, trees, and swirly clouds. This skirt is one for the bolder fashionistas. As for the fit, this runs SMALL. I tried it on in my regular size 6 and it was way too tight, as the (horribly unflattering) picture shows. It fit across the waist, but the bum was toooo tight! I don't know if this means that sizing up would have fixed the fit issue or if sizing up would make the waist too big and the bum just right. Girls with some junk in their trunk: beware!

That's it! If you have any more questions, ask away in the comments or shoot me an email and I'll answer to the best of my ability!

Also, sorry for my J.Crew lovers who aren't getting as many reviews as usual! I'll try to make the trek to J.Crew more often, though it'd make things a lot easier if a J.Crew would just open up closer to me already!

  1. I think the Arribada dress looks great on you, Amy. Some kick-butt heels, a new belt and I think you would be ready for a night on the town!

Thanks for reviewing the Circle Adornments tank, I was thinking of ordering it online as I haven't had to chance to make it to a store lately. Is the material sheer at all? I was concerned about the top ivory part being see-through. It looks great on you too!

  2. Oh my, I sort of bypassed the Arribada Current Dress online without a second glance, but that is only because I did not realize there were cute little TURTLES all over it. I am a sucker for anything animal-printed, and this dress is too precious. Adding to wishlist! :)

I kind of like the print of the Simian Tableau Skirt against my better judgement! And yes, all Leifsdottir skirts run small on me too, it's unfortunate!

  3. Hello cuteness! I think all of these look fab on you. That skirt is so adorable...though I've got some junk in the trunk. May have to still give it a shot...

  4. Lisa - Thanks! I definitely am going to stalk it until it goes on sale, haha! And maybe having a dress that length will encourage me to wear heels more often! As for the Circle Adornments tank, the material isn't sheer. The tiers themselves are suuuuper sheer, but it's tacked on top of a good jersey material so you don't have to worry about it being see-through. The top ivory part is see-through only at the topmost bit, but it's not any more revealing than a scoopneck top. I hope that helps!

goldenmeans - Yay, I'm glad you're giving the Arribada dress a second look! I didn't realize it was a turtle print when I saw it online, either, so seeing it in the store was a pleasant surprise! I didn't realize that Leifsdottir had a habit of running small, especially since the honeyed peplum skirt fit me just fine. Weird! And while the Simian Tableau skirt is kooky, I bet there are ladies (like you!) who will look super fabulous in it!

  5. Rosemary - Ah yes, the curse of the junk in the trunk. Sometimes it's a blessing, and sometimes not. If you do give it a shot, try sizing up - that may help! I was too lazy to try it on in a bigger size so I'll never know, haha!

  6. I really like the Simian Tableau skirt. For some reason, it worked on me, even though I am very pear-shaped. I just don't know where I would wear it. If it's deeply discounted, it might find it's way into my closet.

Even though you say it's too tight, I think it looks good and accentuates your curves well.

  7. I love the dress and tank!!! The dress is something I wouldn't have thought about but I like that you can wear a normal bra and it's not too revealing! Thanks for the Reviews!

  8. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! That dress, omg! I hadn't even noticed it had turtles on it until I saw it on you- it hits you below the knees, yes, but it doesn't look too long! You look adorable in it!!! Thanks for the scoop on the Simian Tableau skirt, what a disappointment- I have a pretty prominent butt, so I guess this is gonna be a no-go for me :( Too bad, the print looks so amazing in your pics!

  9. The dress is great on you--that color is amazing. And I think the details on that top are beautiful even if it's too girly for me to wear. :) The monkey skirt is *so* fun. It does seem like it would be hard to wear though. I would love it as a scarf print.

  10. Tien - It's awesome that the skirt worked on you! Maybe it's a matter of sizing up then? I don't know where it would be appropriate to wear the skirt either. It's super cute for sure, but for that price, I want more versatility!

Pamela - You're welcome! I also love the idea of being able to wear a normal tank under the dress. I think it also has those snap buttons underneath the straps to keep bra straps in place, if I'm not mistaken.

Tara B - Thanks! Turtle dress will be mine when it goes on sale, haha! I'll definitely bust out the heels more often if I get it! And don't give up hope on the Simian Tableau skirt yet! Tien said it worked on her, so maybe if you size up, it'll fit!

e - Thanks! The top is definitely girly (I mean, pink? Floaty layers? All super girly, haha!) but it can be "toned down" with a structured blazer. And the monkey print would be so cute as a scarf, haha!

  14. Love the turtle dress on you. so cute!

What's your honeyed peplum skirt skirt, I am trying to get an idea as to what size I should try in monkey skirt... I have a size #4 in honeyed peplum and it fits me nicely. thanks.

  15. Anon - I wish I could email you a response just in case you don't ever read this, BUT -- I am a size 6 in my honeyed peplum skirt, which is my usual size in bottoms. The monkey skirt was too tight in a size 6 (WAY TOO TIGHT!) so I'd recommend sizing up, especially if you're curvy. Hope that helps!

  16. Horribly unflattering?! I think you look fabulous in that skirt! And the arribada current dress too! I've been stalking it for awhile and finally ordered it now that it's on sale. After reading all the size issues on anthro's site, I just hope it fits!
